Capture

Strategy gets into AlienMonster through conversation with the Facilitator. Talk about what you're building โ€” decisions, assumptions, risks โ€” and the Facilitator structures your thinking into primitives.

Primary path

Claude.ai. Browser-based facilitation. The standard way to capture strategy. Go to Settings โ†’ MCP โ†’ Claude.ai in AlienMonster to connect, then start a conversation in Claude.ai.

Alternative capture surfaces

  • ChatGPT โ€” Coming in 2026. For users who prefer ChatGPT.
  • BYOK โ€” Being rebuilt. For users with their own API keys. Expanded version coming in 2026.

Terminal-only fallback

If you can't use browser-based facilitation, Claude Code and Cursor support capture through the CLI. This is a fallback, not an equivalent path โ€” most users should use Claude.ai.

What gets captured

Every conversation produces primitives. A primitive is one strategic fact: one decision, one assumption, one risk. Each has a dimension (decisions, risks, market, and so on), a subtype, an ID like DEC-DEC-001, and a content block.

The full primitive model โ€” 12 dimensions, 93 subtypes, ID format โ€” is covered in Primitives.

Captured primitives feed into powers โ€” curated markdown files that aggregate related primitives for coding agents to read. Powers render automatically as your strategy fills in.

Four kinds of session

Different conversations want different structure. AlienMonster supports four session types: Strategy Interview for deep-dive framework-driven capture, Brainstorm for divergent idea exploration, Quick Update for a single decision or signal, and BYOK for bring-your-own-key chat (being rebuilt).

Read more in Session types.

Where to view what you captured

AlienMonster renders your primitives into three UI surfaces:

  • The repo browser shows them as files
  • The workspace view lists authored artifacts (specs, briefs, epics)
  • Dimension detail views group them by strategic theme
